We’re now 5 days into summer break, and I’m already on the lookout for fun, budget friendly activities. We’ve been talking about redoing our patio for quite some time and I believe this is the summer that It’s finally going to happen. We have a small covered area that we’re looking into making an outdoor bar to hang out for us and the kids. I have visions of a wooden carved sign on display, market lights on the ceiling and a comfy cozy space for us to escape for a “date” night or family hang out throughout the summer. I was trying to come up with an easy way to incorporate the kids in our new area and do something fun and I think I finally found it.
It all started out when I was, of course Pinteresting outdoor patio designs. I found a photo I liked of a bar set up with these adorable coasters. My mind automatically went to, “ I can do that!” Next thing I knew I was on Amazon looking up a pack of wooden coasters. My kids and I are super artsy and enjoy creating things and thought they’d enjoy taking out some of the acrylic paint, add some poly to seal it and enjoy some custom artwork all summer long. Then my husband had a bright idea to get a wood burner and design them that way with some stain. Now since I’ve never used a wood burner before, I got a little nervous and felt like we needed to practice first. So I also bought a few wooden bookmarks and now for less than $40 we have hours of family time and can use it throughout the summer whenever they get inspiration.
We’ve only just begun, but put a few of our projects down below…

I put the links down below because I figured they come in such large packs that you can spread out the activity and if your kids are artists like mine… each one takes an extremely long time to perfect.
