Hosting Events at Home: Cheap, Easy & Fun

I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person that hosted parties and events. I love the social aspect and getting a bunch of people together in one place. I love being in the comfort of my own home and having friends and family from all walks of life meeting each other in a chill environment. Honestly, what’s better than that?

I tend to be the one who either orders food to make it easier, make a few items for everyone to share or a bit of both. We’ve had company over for birthday parties, playdates and hangouts over the years and definitely haven’t done it enough to not neurotic cleaning for days beforehand and stress about not having enough food.

This past week… was a clean out of the whole kitchen pantry to reorganize in order to find homes for the recent shopping trip items. We bought rice, pasta, canned beans, sauces and they were just sitting out on the floor. I didn’t want to have friend over and entertain with bags lining the couch if I could help it. I definitely get a little crazy with the cleaning sometimes, but life is hard and there isn’t enough time in the day. When someone comes over it motivates me to hurry up and get a move on.

I’ve spoken a little bit about our vegan lifestyle, but it all originally stemmed from our sensitive stomachs, and eventually became permanent due to allergies and focusing on whole foods. When we have people over, the environment is controlled. I know the food we are eating and don’t have to question everything. I know it can be easy to go all out, but I like to keep it simple and easy. This month has been a busy one for us with playdates and hangouts in between basketball tournaments and indoor soccer schedules.

The kids and I decided our vegan chili in the instant pot with chips would be perfect for Friday night and a cold pasta salad with peppers and Italian dressing would be awesome for Sunday. Not only are they easy and convenient to make, they don’t cost a lot for a group and they’re our favorites.

Living with allergies, or loved ones with it, can be tough and exhausting at times. While it can be difficult, there are always ways to make it less stressful, especially when opting to stay close to home instead of always going out. I find it to be the best way to catch up with friends while keeping your budget and wallet in mind and if you don’t know it by now … I love a good deal and simply meal.

Cold Pasta Salad

– Rotini Noodles or bowties $1.39 per box

– Precut mixed bell peppers $3.99 per package

– Italian dressing $2.29

Quick, filling meal that any non-vegan would love. Get some pretzels and/or chips and dip for easy snacks options. It made enough for a meal and lunch the next day! That’s a win win!
